Automation Specialist
Job Summary:
Join our innovative team as an Automation Specialist, where your skills will be essential in carrying out extensive automation projects. This position involves developing concepts, assisting with research, estimating costs, selecting components, designing networks and panels, troubleshooting devices, programming PLCs and HMIs, installing on-site, debugging, and providing post-installation support. We are looking for a proactive individual with a strong understanding of automation concepts and a dedication to continual growth and progress.
Essential Functions:
- Understand and apply knowledge of AC/DC control systems; interpret specifications of components.
- Effectively utilize engineering software for design and PLC programming tools.
- Identify system issues and communicate findings clearly through verbal and written channels.
- Contribute to the successful design and implementation of automation systems.
- Aid in creating electrical circuit layouts for power and control distribution.
- Participate in creating detailed schematic diagrams.
- Assist with project installations and startups using comprehensive checklists.
- Precisely and quickly develop and correct electrical diagrams.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and encourage communication.
- Complete additional tasks as needed to achieve project goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in various programming languages and control device networks for PLCs.
- Commitment to continuous training and certification in relevant automation technologies.
- Familiarity with automation, material handling, water and wastewater systems, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
- Ability to work independently and in team environments.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work flexible hours as needed for projects.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Computer Engineering and Computer Science preferred) or equivalent work experience.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in automation or controls engineering.
- Experience in PLC programming, debugging, commissioning, hardware design, and using AutoCAD.
- Basic understanding of electrical equipment and compliance with building codes like UL508a, NEC, and NFPA.
- Preferred experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, material handling, and familiarity with VFDs, servos, sensors, and vision systems.
- Authorized to work in the United States and capable of obtaining facility security clearance if necessary.
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and field environments with a culture focused on collaboration and achievement.
- Travel required up to 50% of the time.
Physical Demands:
- Extended periods of sitting in office settings; standing and walking at job sites.
- Possible climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds at job sites.
- Frequent typing and data entry tasks.
Work Schedule:
- Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm or 8 am to 5 pm, with flexibility for job site work as needed.
