Job Overview:
As a Senior Plastics Manufacturing Engineer, you will be tasked with creating and refining manufacturing processes and systems within the facility to ensure efficient production, top-notch product quality, and cost-effectiveness. Your role is crucial in the production of high-quality plastic products, requiring a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and quality control principles, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to meet production goals and drive continuous improvement.
Supervision:
- No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Enhance and optimize manufacturing processes in the plant, including extrusion, injection molding, assembly, and packaging.
- Conduct thorough validation and verification activities to uphold consistent product quality and meet industry standards.
- Collaborate with product management and design engineers to improve product design for better manufacturability.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives and cost reduction strategies for products, including identifying design changes and process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize defects.
- Work closely with tooling and equipment designers to develop tooling, equipment, or fixtures that meet performance requirements and product specifications.
- Evaluate product and tooling designs for cost-effectiveness, ease of maintenance, and manufacturability.
- Create operational work instructions for new equipment and participate in training efforts.
- Create maintenance schedules for new equipment to prevent breakdowns.
- Establish and enforce quality control procedures to ensure product consistency and compliance with standards.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to address any deviations or defects in the manufacturing process.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure timely completion of milestones.
- Identify potential manufacturing risks and devise mitigation strategies to maintain consistent production and product quality.
- Perform root cause investigations and failure analysis to resolve production-related issues.
- Assist in various other duties as needed.
Requirements:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Outstanding negotiation, presentation, and listening skills.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in engineering, plastics engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing, with a focus on plastic products.
- Deep knowledge of plastics manufacturing processes such as injection molding and extrusion.
- Proficiency in CAD for tooling and fixture design.
- Familiarity with quality control standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.) and methodologies.
- Experience in project management is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands outlined pertain to the responsibilities of the role and may be adjusted for individuals with disabilities.
- Regularly stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, and operate tools and controls. Occasional sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting. May need to push/pull carts and pallet jacks.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 35 pounds; heavier items may require assistance or lifting devices.
- Visual acuity for close, peripheral, and depth perception, including color recognition.
Work Environment:
Work environment may involve proximity to moving machinery, occasional exposure to fumes or particles, and minimal risk of electrical shock. Moderate noise levels.
