Mining Service Director
Director of Service & Parts
Mining & Bulk Material Handling Industry
In search of an experienced leader for our Service & Parts department to drive the expansion of a large-scale operation within the fields of mining and bulk material handling.
This role will involve developing and implementing an After Sales growth plan, enhancing service offerings, increasing spare parts revenue, and fostering lasting customer connections in the mining industry.
Oversee Service Department activities while collaborating with customers, engineering teams, mine maintenance staff, suppliers, and senior management.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and execute After Sales growth strategies for mining and material handling sectors
- Expand aftermarket services and spare parts sales
- Pursue opportunities for retrofitting, modernizing, and converting equipment for mining and bulk material handling
- Maintain presence at mine sites for identifying business prospects and strengthening customer ties
- Establish and expand networks of representatives and distributors in mining regions supporting commodities like copper, gold, and coal
- Explore avenues for gaining market share and servicing competitor equipment
- Conduct on-site inspections of material handling equipment and offer operational consulting advice
- Lead Service Department in:
- Inspections at mine sites
- Supporting installations
- Commissioning and startup tasks
- Testing equipment
- Assisting with maintenance
- Technical troubleshooting
- Support customer training for operations and maintenance
- Assist in preparing functional specs and equipment assembly documentation
- Back equipment refurbishment and maintenance programs
- Monitor installation quality, assembly methods, and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures
- Promote and enforce safety practices while adhering to OSHA & MSHA standards
- Provide field feedback to engineering teams for equipment enhancements and modifications
- Suggest updates to drawings, registries, and documentation as needed
- Assist in identifying opportunities and securing new projects and clients for ongoing business development
Leadership & Business Responsibilities
- Mentor and lead Service Department staff to ensure top-notch customer service and project achievement
- Drive departmental goals, performance, and operational enhancements
- Collaborate with top management on strategic growth ventures
- Foster customer relationships and ensure long-term client retention
- Contribute significantly to business expansion and market development
Required Background
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Electrical / Controls Engineering
- Or equivalent relevant experience
- Possess 10+ years of experience in engineering, construction, service, commissioning, or operations settings
- Sound grasp of:
- Material handling equipment
- Commissioning and startup processes
- Field instrumentation and devices
- Equipment performance assessment
- Maintenance and troubleshooting methodologies
- Experience in reading and interpreting work plans and technical documentation
- Preferably have previous field or mine-site exposure
Ideal Experience
- Prior experience in the mining industry
- Hands-on involvement with bulk material handling systems
- Leadership experience in service operations
- Strong background in customer interaction and business development
- Experience supporting installation, commissioning, and maintenance in heavy industrial environments
Work Environment & Travel
- Primarily office-based with extensive interaction at field and mine sites
- Frequent travel and extended stays at project and mine locations required
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be needed based on project timelines
Additional Notes
- Essential skills for this role include strong leadership, communication, analytical, and business development capabilities
- Comfort in liaising with customers, field teams, engineering units, and senior management in a fast-paced industrial setting
