Summary: The primary duty of a phlebotomist is to aid in the execution of various assigned tasks, problem solving, training and proposing workflow suggestions.

Position Responsibilities:

Experience conducting blood extractions, labeling samples, spinning samples, recording maintenance details and decontamination, updating patient data, etc.

Gathers and preserves samples following established protocols.

Clearly and courteously explains the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection procedures when necessary.

Demonstrates techniques using different types of needles as required. Fully comprehends all physician instructions.

Matches lab requisition forms to sample tubes. Labels, spins, separates, and freezes samples as per test orders.

Verifies all test requisitions or labels against prescriptions for accuracy. Prepares samples for transportation.

Stores sample specimens at appropriate temperatures, places them in proper containers, labels accurately, follows specific transport procedures to maintain specimen integrity.

Understands and adheres to OSHA and DEP regulations.

Participates in annual departmental trainings. Handles phone calls, reads lab results to address queries.

Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment. At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED plus 3 years of experience
