Summary:

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to aid in executing various assigned tasks, problem solving, training and making recommendations to enhance workflow.

Position Responsibilities:

Proficient in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, maintaining records and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens following established procedures. Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures when necessary. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Accurately follow physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test order requirements. Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against script for accuracy. Prepare specimens for transport. Store specimen samples correctly, label accurately, and follow specific protocols for transport. Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations. Participate in annual department trainings. Handle telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results.

Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employment will be based, where required. At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED with 1-4 years of experience.
