Overview:
The primary role of a phlebotomist involves assisting with various assigned tasks, problem-solving, training, and offering workflow suggestions.
Responsibilities:
Experience in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, data recording, decontamination, patient information updating, etc. Collect and store specimens following established protocols. Clearly explain venipuncture (blood draw) or other specimen collection processes as needed. Utilize straight needles and butterfly needles. Understand physicians' orders comprehensively. Match lab requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure accurate labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing of specimens. Verify test requisitions for accuracy, package specimens for transport, and store samples per temperature standards. Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations, attend department trainings, and handle inquiries over the phone.
Minimum Requirements: Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations. At least 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High school diploma or equivalent.
