Description:

Summary:

The primary responsibility of a phlebotomist is to aid in executing various assigned tasks, addressing issues, training, and proposing improvements to work procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

Experience carrying out blood extractions, labeling samples, spinning samples in a centrifuge, recording maintenance information, decontaminating, updating patient records, etc.

Gathers and preserves samples in adherence to established protocols.

Clearly and courteously explains the procedure for venipuncture (blood extraction) and other sample collections (e.g. urine or fecal) as necessary

Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Completely comprehend all of the physicians' instructions.

Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.

Prepare specimens for transportation

Stores specimen samples at the required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations.

Participate in annual department trainings

Answer telephone inquiries, interpret laboratory results.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states

Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital environmentProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

High School Diploma or GED
