Summary:
The primary role of a phlebotomist is to aid in executing various assigned tasks, problem solving, training, and offering work flow suggestions.
Position Responsibilities:
Experience in blood collection, specimen labeling, specimen centrifugation, maintenance data recording and decontamination, patient information updating, etc.
Collects and preserves specimens following established procedures.Properly explains the venipuncture process and/or other specimen collections in a clear and courteous manner, as well as demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully comprehends all physicians' orders.Match requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test order requirements.
Check requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure accuracy.
Prepare specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples at required temperature, place in proper collection container/tube, label accurately, follow transport procedures to maintain sample integrity, and adhere to regulations such as OSHA and DEP.
Participate in annual departmental trainings, answer phone calls, and provide laboratory results upon request.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment where required.Minimum of 6 months' experience with venipuncture in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, High School Diploma or GED.
