Overview:

The primary role of a blood draw specialist is to support in executing various assigned tasks, problem-solving, coaching and proposing improvements to work processes.

Responsibilities:

Skilled in blood drawing, labeling samples, centrifuging specimens, documenting maintenance information and decontamination, updating patient records, etc.

Collects and preserves samples following established guidelines. Clearly and politely explains the venipuncture (blood draw) process and/or other specimen collection methods to patients

Demonstrates proficiency in using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Thorough understanding of physicians' instructions. Matches requisition forms with sample tubes. Labels, centrifuges, separates, and freezes samples as per test requirements.

Verifies test requisitions against script for accuracy.

Prepares specimens for transportation

Stores samples at required temperature, places them in suitable containers/tubes, labels accurately, follows specified protocols for transport, adheres to OSHA and DEP regulations.

Participates in annual departmental training sessions

Handles phone inquiries, reads lab results for clarification

Requirements:

Valid Phlebotomy certification as per state regulations

At least 6 months of experience in venipuncture in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting

Proficient in Microsoft Office SuiteHigh School Diploma or GED
