Location: Asheville NC

Schedule: must be available for an 8 hour shift between 6AM to 6PM M-F

Overview:

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to help with various assigned tasks, training, and offering recommendations for improving workflows.

Position Duties:

Experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, maintaining records and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.

Collect and store specimens following established procedures.

Clearly and politely explain the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection methods as needed.

Demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Have a thorough understanding of all physicians' orders.

Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test order requirements.

Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

Prepare specimens for transport

Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate containers, and accurately label them following specific protocols for transport.

Follow OSHA and DEP regulations.

Participate in annual department trainings

Answer phone calls, provide laboratory results, and address inquiries.

Minimum Requirements:

Valid Phlebotomy certification as required in some states

At least 6 months of experience with venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

High School Diploma or GED

Minimum 2 years of experience
