Safety Trainer

JOB SUMMARY

The Safety Instructor role in Pittsburgh, PA will entail developing and implementing the Safety and Health program and training plan. This position requires strong leadership skills to effectively execute the safety program and maintain accountability. The Safety Instructor will collaborate with key stakeholders and continuously improve the safety program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• Display in-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety standards while acting as the primary regulatory point person for relevant agencies
• Construct and uphold the Safety and Health Program according to regulatory requirements and industry standards

• Collaborate with management to establish training objectives that align with organizational goals

• Create training programs, including comprehensive outlines, instructional materials, handouts, and assessment exercises

• Establish and execute an annual training plan for all departments

• Manage a thorough training matrix to document qualifications and expirations of all employees, contractors, and visitors
• Act as the Administrator of the Learning Management System, ensuring compliance with Plant Specific Regulatory Training requirements

• Develop and deliver orientation programs for contractors and new hires
• Schedule training sessions to meet mandatory training requirements

• Conduct formal lectures on safety and training topics to ensure compliance and audience understanding

• Observe classroom trainees and effectively address any inquiries
• Administer written and practical exams and generate detailed performance reports to evaluate trainees’ progress
• Regularly observe and provide coaching to enhance performance
• Adhere to placement and filing of OSHA Logs, as well as tracking and maintaining KPIs
• Actively participate in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to gather relevant information for the training program and integrate it into existing programs
• Collaborate with management to develop necessary drills, audits, reports, physicals, and reporting protocols
• Assist supervisors in identifying plant hazards, implementing root cause analysis, and ensuring necessary PPE
• Lead investigations into accidents, near-misses, and safety-related issues
• Serve as a leader in incident reporting, near miss reporting, accident reporting, and follow-up actions
• Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS)


• Must possess a Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university; or a combination of equivalent education and professional experience
• Two to three years of relevant experience and/or training
• Minimum of two years of experience in oil, gas, mining, power plant, or equivalent operations
• Ability to lead and influence teams to foster a positive and sustainable safety culture
• Proficient in various software applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, Access, Taproot, etc.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively as a key member of the company team
• Ability to handle stressful situations and adapt to changing circumstances, including a willingness to work extended hours on short notice
• Skilled in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively deliver information and respond to inquiries from groups and management
• Strong numerical aptitude and ability to calculate percentages, area, circumference, and volume
• Proficiency in solving practical problems and managing a range of variables in situations with limited standardizations
• Successful completion of pre-employment physical exam, including drug and alcohol testing, as well as a comprehensive background check
