Supervise: Assistant(s) and Lower Level Staff

Purpose of Role: This role is responsible for the development, enhancement, and implementation of Building Information Models (BIM) and other Virtual Design & Construction technology, documentation, and representations.

Role Description
The VDC Engineer is accountable for virtual construction requirements in Preconstruction, Construction Operations, and Consulting/Litigation Support Services departments. The VDC Engineer is an expert user of all the company’s VDC software programs. The role necessitates a motivated, open-minded, and devoted individual who is willing to take on new tasks. The VDC Engineer is based in Woodland Hills, CA, but travels to jobsites and partner offices as required and may work from jobsites as needed. The role reports to the Virtual Design & Construction Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and synchronize 3D object-oriented models
  2. Create 5D visual simulations integrating BIM+TIME+COST using Navisworks or Synchro
  3. Conduct clash detections
  4. Perform 3D scanning using Trimble 3D scanner and Layout of work using Trimble Robotic Total Station
  5. Analyze actual job cost, model-based quantity report, model-based quantity take-off, and actual schedule information and incorporate them into the model for as-built project control, risk analysis, and historical reference
  6. Generate Formwork and concrete lift and placement drawings for horizontal and vertical control and general assembly drawings
  7. Assist Preconstruction and Business Development efforts by creating photorealistic Imagery using Artlantis and other rendering engines
  8. Manage project documents (RFIs, submittals and PCOs, NOC, etc.)
  9. Process raw 3D point cloud scan files in software suites like Trimble REALWORKS, Scene, Rythm, or similar software and produce registered files
  10. Produce as-built models based on the scan files using Trimble REALWORKS or similar software and/or TEKLA Structures
  11. Convert and rectify building model files or 3D scanned point clouds as necessary to create rapid prototype 3D printable objects using Materials, Magics, and SpaceClaim
  12. Conduct completeness and constructability reviews under supervision and issue and manage RFIs

Qualifications

  1. Bachelors degree in architecture, engineering, or construction related field or equivalent work experience
  2. 2+ years in building or design industry preferred, but not required.
  3. Familiarity with concepts of VDC or BIM
  4. Exposure to and preliminary experience with some Building Information Model (BIM) systems (i.e. Autodesk Revit, Bentley, Vico Constructor, TEKLA, Synchro, Navisworks, Sketchup and similar software suites) required
  5. Proficient computer skills, including high level of proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and BlueBeam
  6. Strong personal management skills, dedication, organization, and open-mindedness required
  7. Creative thinker with ability to work in a close-knit environment
  8. Other duties as assigned by supervisors
