Controls Engineer

We are currently seeking a Controls Engineer for our Albuquerque, NM location. The Controls Engineer will be responsible for various project requirements related to controls engineering, such as PLC programming, HMI/SCADA programming, control panel design, instrumentation specification, check-out support, and commissioning assistance.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Project execution:
    • Identifying, prioritizing, and scheduling tasks with a personal commitment to meeting deadlines
    • Identifying and resolving problems and conflicts at an early stage
    • Working under the guidance of experienced engineers
    • Continuously improving project execution through the use of methodologies, lessons learned, templates, and efficiency tools
    • Regularly communicating and collaborating with clients
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and codes for the contract and project(s)
  • Writing technical documents, including project definition and requirements, status reports, process control sequence of operations, standard practices and procedures, scope of supply, requests for information, customer correspondence, and code commenting
  • Providing engineering design, development, and implementation, including software (DCS/PLC, HMI, etc.). Assisting the lead engineer with hardware engineering (systems integration, instrumentation callout, panel layout, and construction) and systems design (integration of various components on a project)
  • Supporting factory/site acceptance testing, user acceptance testing, and user training
  • Developing control logic, constructing graphics, configuring device communication and databases, etc.
  • Reading, interpreting, and updating documents, drawings, and specifications related to process control and automation projects, such as PFDs, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, and instrumentation and control data sheets.
Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline (Electrical, Chemical, Controls, or Computer Engineering preferred). Equivalent experience with a technical degree also acceptable
  • Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in process control, manufacturing, or information services
  • Preference for candidates with experience in Rockwell and Cimplicity
  • Experience in design, development, and deployment of PLC, DCS, and/or SCADA/HMI systems
  • Strong leadership and client relationship skills
  • Good engineering and documentation practices. Willingness to use collaboration tools (such as SharePoint) to work effectively in remote teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Experience with SharePoint is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with clients and project leaders
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 25%
  • Preferred Skills (combination of the following):
    • Diverse Process Knowledge: Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Water & Wastewater, etc.
    • Experience in Schneider Unity programming
    • Experience in Allen Bradley ControlLogix programming (PlantPAx experience is a plus)
    • Experience with SCADA/HMI platforms (ICONICS or Wonderware experience is a plus)
    • Experience in checkout, testing, startup, and commissioning

Physical Demands:

Normal vision capabilities required for AutoCAD and architectural design tasks. Ability to hear and follow instructions. Full dexterity of hands for computer usage. Ability to sit and move around to complete job assignments and meet deadlines.

Standard office environment with frequent use of computers, fax machines, copy machines, and other office equipment
