Job Summary

As a Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering and design of electrical systems for assigned projects. Your expertise in HVAC and plumbing projects will be vital in identifying and solving electrical design problems. You will work closely with the Electrical Engineer Team Lead, Engineering Manager, and Preconstruction Manager to develop and execute conceptual designs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the electrical design of assigned projects
  • Collaborate with the team lead electrical engineer to ensure project schedules are met
  • Create construction drawings, perform calculations, and write specifications based on guidance from the team lead electrical engineer
  • Familiarize yourself with the project’s scope of work, engineering hours budget, and construction budget
  • Help develop and maintain drafting, design, and engineering standards
  • Apply your knowledge of engineering practices and materials to complete drawings independently
  • Work with project teams to monitor and meet project milestones
  • Conduct site surveys and equipment assessments
  • Provide project engineering coordination during construction as assigned
  • Support the team lead electrical engineer in various projects
  • Aid in developing timely preliminary design solutions for complex projects
  • Engage with project stakeholders, contractors, and third-party associates to build and maintain productive relationships
  • Perform other tasks as assigned within the scope of your role

Supervisor Responsibilities

This role does not have any supervisor responsibilities.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • At least one year of electrical engineering experience with a professional engineering firm or electrical contractor involved in MEP related or similar work
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to travel to worksites, which may require up to 25% of your time

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of electrical and construction methods for commercial and institutional building renovations
  • Proficiency in systems design, including Fire Alarm, TeleCom, and Security
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and other construction industry software
  • Familiarity with project management software such as Procore and Bluebeam Revu
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/Revit Design software
  • Excellent mathematical skills for budgeting and analyzing data
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, to convey information to various audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive working relationships
  • A collaborative mindset and a commitment to sharing information with team members
  • Ability to work independently and integrate seamlessly into project teams

Working Conditions

The physical demands of this job include office work as well as occasional outdoor work for inspections. Hand-eye coordination is necessary for operating drafting instruments and computers. The employee may occasionally lift and move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. While performing the job, the employee may work in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and in high, precarious places. There may also be exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Overnight travel may be required by personal vehicle or commercial airplane.
