Tooling Technician


Ensure a safe and healthy working environment and maintain well-maintained tools to produce high-quality products. Also responsible for contributing to the improvement of tools, maintaining cleanliness, making informed decisions, and preparing tools for production runs.

  1. Familiarize yourself with and understand the Quality and Environmental policies of “Our Client”.
  2. Perform additional tasks as needed.

  4. Perform Tig & Mig welding and manual work on die parts (heat treating of materials).
  5. Thorough understanding and knowledge of die work and operations.
  6. Comprehensive understanding and familiarity with machine operation, able to operate all equipment in the tool room, including measuring instruments.
  7. Extensive knowledge of Press and Assembly Operations and Quality procedures.
  8. Assist in identifying spare parts requirements.
  9. Maintain accurate documentation.
  10. Train operators and new team members.
  11. Suggest modifications to existing equipment.
  12. Establish and maintain communication with team members and support departments.
  13. Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing processes.
  14. Ensure high-quality products and adhere to quality procedures.
  15. Troubleshoot tooling (in or out of the presses).
  16. Work according to blueprints, CAD data, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  17. Efficiently perform Lock out/Tag out Procedures.
  18. Follow all plant safety policies and procedures.
  19. Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearance of finished parts.
  20. Visualize and calculate dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies based on specifications.
  21. Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of die parts using abrasive stones, files, emery clothes, or power grinders. Adjust dies to proper running conditions.
  22. Identify tooling stacks and understand heat treatment methods.


These qualifications represent the minimum requirements of the position. Employees must possess the abilities and skills to proficiently perform the duties.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Completion of high school diploma or GED.
  • Preferably, post-secondary education in tool and die, or a minimum of two years of experience in a tool and die role.
  • Journeyman Certification is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of troubleshooting, materials and methods, machines and tools, and practical application of tooling.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with computer skills.
  • Minimum of two years of on-the-job training in a skilled trade capacity with experience in heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Must have personal tools.
  • Basic knowledge of drafting, including blueprint reading and dimension drawings.
  • Basic understanding of automation.

Physical Demands:

  • Office and general factory environment.
  • Must be flexible with working hours to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and unscheduled overtime shifts, etc.).
  • Possible shift work.
  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods, with occasional bending and stooping.
  • Ability to lift over 40 pounds, move toolboxes, and stand for extended periods.
