Annual Salary: $100,000 – $145,000 + Excellent Benefits

Working under general guidance, the Automation Specialist applies their skills and expertise to develop innovative solutions by creating and improving techniques, procedures, and products. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies to achieve project objectives efficiently and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

· Performs specific and focused tasks as assigned by an experienced Engineer. Utilizes standard practices and techniques, analyzes data, identifies discrepancies, and follows detailed steps to achieve successful outcomes

o Designs, creates, and enhances electrical control systems, machinery, and equipment based on given requirements and specifications

§ Generates equipment specifications and reviews vendor drawings

§ Creates Logic Diagrams, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Control System Architectures, and data sheets

§ Develops functional descriptions and control philosophies to effectively communicate functionality and company programs

§ Assists in developing basic software to support Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)

§ Selects appropriate instrumentation and automation hardware

§ Identifies and recommends improvements for inadequate procedures, designs, or specifications

§ Prepares procurement specifications, material requisitions, and conducts technical bid analysis

o Applies change control processes to identify and manage potential changes

o Collaborates with design and drafting teams to maintain effective communication

o Prepares, reviews, and approves drawings as required

o Provides regular updates to the Project Engineer regarding assignment status, including schedule, budget, and any delays or problems

§ Assists with labor and cost estimations, and performs material take-offs for specific projects

§ Ensures the quality, quantity, and completeness of assigned engineering tasks

o Schedules and plans engineering efforts for assigned projects

§ Maintains accurate and timely documentation of engineering activities

§ Organizes and maintains engineering files and records

§ Develops a thorough understanding of industry codes and standards

§ Demonstrates a proactive and collaborative approach as a team player

o Conducts and participates in Factory Acceptance Testing of various electrical and control components, such as PLC and Network Enclosures, E-Houses, Motor Control Centers, and other equipment

§ Performs tests to ensure circuit continuity and system safety following installation, replacement, or repair

§ Troubleshoots and isolates faults

o Assists in the start-up and commissioning process

§ Travels to project site for start-up and commissioning activities

§ Performs electrical, electrical controls, instrumentation control, and some mechanical tasks including set up, adjustment, calibration, tuning, and troubleshooting

§ Troubleshoots electrical controls, PLC programs, processor-based diagnostic panels, and relay logic controls in various manufacturing equipment

§ Maintains technical records, performs computations, plots data, and creates graphs and charts as required

Qualifications and Experience:

· Experience with HMI software such as Panel View, iFix, Ignition, Delta V, or similar systems preferred

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Control Systems

· Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in electrical controls engineering, controls engineering, or industrial automation

· Experience in defining and executing project scope

· Expertise in designing, testing, commissioning, and modifying control systems

· Ability to analyze data and present findings in written reports

· Familiarity with industry concepts, practices, and procedures

· Working knowledge of industry codes and standards

· Experience in mining or bulk material handling industries is a plus

· Installation and technical support of PLC-based hardware and software

· Experience in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of Controls and/or Power Distribution equipment

· Proficiency in handling electrical power, control, and instrumentation circuits and generating project-related drawings using AutoCAD and Microsoft software

· Demonstrates advanced technical knowledge in the field

Other Requirements:

Must be willing and able to travel without restrictions. Must be dedicated to putting in the necessary hours and efforts to meet job requirements, including traveling to project sites and working on-site for extended periods of time.
