Maintenance Lead

Our client is seeking an experienced individual to fill the role of Assistant Chief Engineer (Maintenance Manager) for a commercial laundry operation located in Lincolnwood, IL, in the Chicago area.
Job Summary:
As an Assistant Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the maintenance department and overseeing the mechanical needs across all departments. Your main role will involve providing training, direction, and leadership to the maintenance team.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, from 7am to 5pm
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a safe working environment and protect company assets by prioritizing safety.
  • Supervise and train the maintenance staff.
  • Oversee the repairs and maintenance of industrial washers, dryers, boilers, compressors, conveyors, and other equipment.
  • Diagnose, rebuild, and repair equipment, conduct inspections, and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure that PMs, minor fine-tuning of laundry systems, and major project work are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Troubleshoot, install equipment, and analyze and repair complex mechanical and electrical faults, including compressed air-operated machines, with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain compliance with safety policies and maintain good housekeeping practices.
  • Manage inventory and purchasing of equipment and parts, while also maintaining the department budget.
  • Order parts by cross-referencing with local vendors.
  • Plan, organize, and control functions and activities related to plant operations and building renovations.
  • Evaluate and review existing programs, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor work performance and prepare/review performance evaluations for assigned personnel.
  • Interview, select, hire, develop, train, and provide progressive counseling (if necessary) to all direct reports, in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Conduct performance appraisals for all direct reports at least once a year and establish measurable goals and objectives.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in laundry maintenance, with in-depth knowledge of machinery, electricity, electronics, plumbing, hydraulics, pneumatics, welder and boiler applications.
  • Possess a preventive maintenance mindset and experience managing a PM program in this industry or a similar one.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience is mandatory, with a proven ability to lead and train a team of maintenance technicians.
  • Strong background in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, as well as troubleshooting skills. Completion of trade school or certificate programs is preferred.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and electrical/electronic schematics.
  • Prior experience negotiating and working with outside vendors to procure parts at the best price and in a timely manner.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
