  • This role will be specifically located at the Inpatient unit.

  1. We are seeking a highly supportive and knowledgeable Speech Pathologist to join our team and make a significant impact on the lives of residents and their families. This position will be specifically based in a REHAB unit.

  3. Speech-Language Therapy team members aid in ensuring the health and welfare of our residents by evaluating the need for speech-language therapy, carrying out treatments as planned, conducting audiometric screenings upon request, and making recommendations for additional audiology services. This position ensures the highest level of quality resident care is maintained consistently.


    1. Assess residents for communication difficulties as requested; perform comprehensive evaluations and provide written recommendations for a therapy plan of care, if necessary and when requested.
    2. Coordinate audiometric screening tests for residents and make referrals for further audiology evaluations and treatments as needed.
    3. Initiate speech-language therapy plan of care according to physician orders; maintain regular communication with the physician throughout the resident’s therapy program.
    4. Respect the rights of residents and treat them with kindness and dignity.
    5. Document evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries for all residents in a speech-language treatment program.
    6. Collaborate with other staff members regarding the special needs of residents and integrate speech-language treatment program with the goals and approaches of other disciplines.
    7. Attend Resident Care Planning and Family/Resident Care Plan Review meetings for residents currently in a speech-language treatment program.
    8. Maintain records including statistical reports, in-service education information, budget information, and a material/equipment inventory.
    9. Prepare statistical reports for Medicare billing payments and complete assessment forms as required.
    10. Attend staff meetings and participate in required or preferred in-service training.

    11. Assist in developing and conducting in-service training programs for facility personnel involved in resident care.
    12. Review and revise written speech-language policies and procedures annually as needed.
    13. Manage program costs within the parameters of the annual budget.
    14. Adhere to safety rules and practices required for this position to ensure the general safety of staff, residents, and visitors.
    15. Generate and contribute ideas to improve the quality of care for residents or increase position productivity and satisfaction.
    16. Perform assigned duties according to established standards of excellence for this position and for all staff members of the facility.
    17. Provide the highest level of customer service to residents, staff, and visitors.
    18. Carry out other assigned duties by supervisor, management staff, or Administrator.


    • M.A. or M.S. Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited school is required.
    • Must hold a valid New York State license to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
    • Clinical Competence Certification from the American Speech and Hearing Association is preferred.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
    • Must possess maturity, diplomacy, and the ability to work well with others.
    • Verification of qualifications by the New York State Department of Health, Office of Rehabilitation Therapies (license number/certification number) is required.
    • Must be able to perform tasks to established standards of excellence.
