Fire Safety Lead

The Fire Safety Lead will assume a leadership position in the development of multi-disciplinary projects and overseeing the creation of comprehensive fire protection packages, including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke management, and life safety. This role entails working on a variety of projects with different project types and clients.

Primary Duties:

  • Lead the design, specification, and coordination of fire protection systems, such as wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, and foam/water fire suppression systems.
  • Supervise the fire water supply infrastructure, including fire water storage tanks, fire pumps, underground and aboveground distribution piping, and related components.
  • Oversee the design of outdoor fire suppression systems, encompassing monitors, spray systems, and exposure protection systems.
  • Direct the development of addressable and non-addressable voice evacuation fire alarm systems, including initiation devices, supervision devices, and audible/visual notification appliances.
  • Manage releasing systems for pre-action, foam/water, and clean agent systems.
  • Review fire protection calculations, such as hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand, battery calculations, and voltage drop calculations.
  • Lead the assessment of building and life safety requirements, considering building area and height limitations, construction types, fire resistive assemblies, opening protections, occupancy classifications, hazards, building egress, and active and passive smoke management systems.
  • Supervise construction administration, including coordinating with field personnel to resolve installation issues related to design, reviewing contractor shop drawings and calculations, conducting field inspections, and testing fire protection systems.
  • Lead project teams in conducting site evaluations and documenting existing fire protection systems.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Establish productive relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors, and identify potential new business opportunities.
  • Oversee sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction goals and expectations are achieved.
  • Manage the development of cost proposals and qualification statements, meeting financial performance targets and standards.
  • Create and present project budgets and cost estimates, reporting project performance.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the fire protection practice.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance/quality control processes.
  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Perform any other duties assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years of fire protection engineering experience (or equivalent). OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program, successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years of fire protection engineering experience. OR
  • Master’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering and 6 years of fire protection engineering experience.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, FM Global datasheets, military standards, and refinery/industrial API guidelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Ability to lead project/discipline design teams.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License (Preferred).
  • NICET certification in Water-Based System Layout (Preferred) or NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Preferred) or NICET certification in Special Hazard Systems (Preferred).
