Operations Head


A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Operations Head to join our client’s team in Nashville, TN. As the Operations Head, you will play a crucial role in developing and executing operational strategies to drive business performance and growth. This executive leadership position entails overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of design & construction, while providing strategic direction to the company in collaboration with the CEO and CFO. Your impact will be multidimensional, encompassing various aspects such as operations, strategy, risk management, teamwork, leadership development, and customer satisfaction. This role is essential for the organization’s success and long-term sustainability. With potential headquarters in Chicago, IL, there will be travel involved to various regions & offices.

Experience & Responsibilities Overview:

  • We are looking for a candidate with at least 15 years of experience in the Commercial, Industrial, or Multifamily Construction Niche.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Operations, or a related field is required, while an MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
  • Proven success in senior leadership roles is essential, with a minimum of 5 years serving as the senior leader of a $50-250M+ construction company.
  • You must possess strong leadership abilities, strategic thinking skills, and operational expertise to drive business performance and growth.
  • Experience with an employee-owned company and/or an ESOP is a plus.
  • You will incorporate and promote the company core values of people first, take ownership, deliver excellence, and smart growth through clear, actionable, and tangible plans and initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing operational strategies to achieve the company’s goals and objectives, with a focus on profitability and excellent execution, is a key responsibility.
  • You will translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organization-wide goal setting and annual operations planning.
  • Together with the leadership and management team, you will assess and execute the company’s strategic plan, with a particular emphasis on building and enhancing the company’s regional office approach.
  • Expanding the buildings and facilities business to the Southern Division will be a crucial priority.
  • You will assess, enhance, and expand self-perform operations.
  • Ensuring optimal efficiency and productivity, you will allocate resources, including personnel, finances, and equipment, to different departments, regions, and projects.
  • To streamline operations and reduce costs, you will drive process improvement and implement changes, while also leading customer service initiatives, continuous improvement projects, profit enhancement opportunities, and similar programs.
  • Utilizing technology, you will leverage advancements in Operations to drive efficiency.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to Divisional leadership and operational teams is essential to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics will be determined, implemented, and monitored to track the company’s performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Risk assessment and development of strategies to mitigate operational risks, ensuring business continuity and resilience, are critical responsibilities. You must possess a high proficiency in construction delivery methods and contractual risk management.
  • Collaborating with other executives, such as the CEO and CFO, you will develop and execute overall business strategies.
  • Smooth operations will be facilitated through clear communication and coordination between different departments and teams, and as the Operations Head, you will play a pivotal role in leading and modeling this.
  • Proactively providing safety leadership and guiding the Corporate Director of Safety in achieving best-in-class safety results is a key priority.
  • Active participation in business development efforts and maintaining relationships with industry associations, key clients, design partners, and subcontractors.
  • Monitoring and evaluating Senior Vice Presidents of Operations, Vice Presidents, Construction Executives, and Corporate Director of Safety.
  • You will develop your direct reports by evaluating performance and creating growth opportunities in line with learning plans.

Compensation Overview:

  • Salary Range up to $230K (DOE)
  • Vehicle Allowance of $1200/month + Gas Card
  • Bonus Incentive package up to 20% of salary
