Project Lead

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary role of the Project Lead is to provide guidance and consistency to large-scale complex projects involving Controls programming and Electrical/Mechanical Installation work. This position involves collaborating with customers and end users (TSA, Airports, etc.) to ensure project success. The Project Lead is responsible for leading project teams, overcoming obstacles, and ensuring each team member’s success. Additionally, this role involves managing customer expectations and mentoring less experienced Project Managers and PMO team members.

The key measure of success for this position is delivering successful projects to customers. A successful project is defined by meeting the following criteria:

3. Execution – efficient and effective startups

4. Quality – building according to specifications

5. Profitability – staying within or under budget

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Empowers project teams and manages them according to organizational standards
  • Serves as the first point of escalation for customer issues
  • Manages multiple large complex projects
  • Acts as the primary project manager for assigned projects, overseeing others as needed
  • Takes full accountability for overall project results and profit/loss responsibility
  • Reports on financial KPIs, risk/opportunity management, claims, scheduling, and EHS
  • Reads contracts and assesses risks, opportunities, and obligations
  • Schedules regular project status meetings and ensures work results are accepted
  • Documents and reports all work results according to defined standards
  • Manages customer acceptance and final project closeout requirements
  • Manages customer expectations and assists in issue resolution
  • Gathers customer strategies, requirements, and targets
  • Consults with customers, project teams, and Sales team on technical solutions
  • Clarifies customer targets and contract specifications
  • Conducts lessons learned activities and shares results with project teams
  • Develops strategic billing plans for optimal cash flow
  • Represents the project and company in relevant decisions
  • Assesses and manages contracts/specifications for responsible projects
  • Negotiates with stakeholders on Change Requests and contract incorporation
  • Proactively notifies customers, management, and team of project plan changes
  • Aligns the project team and communicates project success criteria
  • Coordinates and communicates effectively with customers and internal teams
  • Builds and maintains client relationships for project success and repeat business
  • Coordinates and communicates with Engineering and Field Operations
  • Manages sub-contractor and vendor relationships for success
  • Leads project team in maintaining and managing the project schedule
  • Provides monthly updates to management on budget, schedule, safety, CO’s and risk
  • Performs other responsibilities as needed

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position offers a flexible work schedule. General office hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm or 8am to 5pm. Working hours will vary when working at a job site to meet the requirements as needed.

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to understand written specifications and contract drawings
  • Ability to travel to customer facilities and work non-business hours as needed
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable
  • Knowledge of Project Management concepts and project reporting
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong leadership traits and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Effective collaboration and influencing skills
  • Consistently achieves or exceeds desired results
  • Ability to manage multiple large complex projects simultaneously
  • Ability to train less experienced Project Managers

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area or equivalent experience
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and teams
  • Experience in customer presentations and negotiations
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Expert level knowledge of Excel
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to obtain airport security clearance as needed
  • Experience with MS Project or equivalent scheduling tools
  • Preferred Experience: AutoCAD Knowledge, Presentations to customers and leadership
