Job Overview:

  • Creating and implementing tailored treatment plans for individual patients, following Physical Therapy principles and practices. Collaborating with interdisciplinary treatment teams. Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services.


1. Reviewing Physical Therapy requisitions.

a. Conducting patient interviews and assessing their physical condition and needs.

2. Developing exercise and treatment programs for assigned patients.

a. Determining appropriate equipment usage, application, and body position. Making necessary adjustments in administering treatments such as exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobility, whirlpool therapy, hot packs, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, electrical stimulation, and traction.

b. Instructing patients on program segments, including the proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.

c. Recommending modifications or changes to the patient’s program based on personal evaluation of progress.

d. Consulting with physicians when necessary to discuss available alternatives.

3. Preparing written documentation as required, such as evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries.

4. Communicating observations, facts, and comments with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to ensure efficient coordination of overall healthcare plans.

5. Providing guidance and direction to assigned staff members assisting in patient care.

6. Maintaining department policies, procedures, objectives, quality initiative programs, safety protocols, and infection control measures.

a. Adhering to hospital-wide safety responsibilities:

1. Maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.

2. Demonstrating knowledge of all hospital safety policies and procedures, including fire safety and disaster protocols.

3. Following safety practices for equipment.

4. Using safety devices on equipment and ensuring their proper working condition.

5. Wearing required safety clothing, glasses, gloves, and shoes, and following “Universal Precautions” as necessary.

6. Reporting any unsafe conditions or acts to supervisor.

7. Participating in safety programs.

b. Familiarity with and adherence to the department’s “Policy and Procedure” manual.

c. Assisting the Clinical Coordinator with quality initiative indicators as needed.

7. Assisting in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

8. Attending meetings as required and participating in committees as directed.

9. Assisting in transport of patients to and from the PT Department as necessary.

10. Assuming the duties and responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absence.

11. Enhancing professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc.

12. Responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required for the position.

13. Providing age-appropriate care to patients of all age groups.

14. Demonstrating the importance of customer/patient satisfaction by interacting with kindness and attentiveness, addressing customer’s psychological and physical needs, and maintaining communication for a secure and pleasant experience.

  • Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid license, or be eligible to obtain a license, to practice physical therapy in NYS at the time of hire.
  • Preferred Experience:
  • Experience working in a hospital setting.
  • CPR Certification:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire date.
  • Physical Demands:
  • Significant physical effort and occasional repetitive tasks. May involve lifting, pushing, pulling. Must be able to independently lift at least thirty (30) pounds and up to one hundred and fifty (150) pounds with assistance.
  • Exposure Category:
  • Category II. No exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Unplanned Category I tasks may be required.
  • Infection Control:
  • Adheres to universal precautions when providing patient care.
