Procurement Chief

SUMMARY

The Procurement Chief is directly responsible for establishing and implementing the strategy for acquiring all necessary ingredients, packaging, and indirect goods and services to support the business. This position is accountable for managing existing relationships with suppliers, assessing market trends and pricing changes to ensure competitive supplier rates while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures long-term supply and cost certainty by executing forward-looking procurement and purchasing/coverage strategies
  • Advises senior management on identified risks from procurement, quality, and R&D and suggests alternative solutions
  • Develops a balanced scorecard for cost, quality, service, and personnel metrics
  • Sets annual plan for reducing costs and increasing productivity to achieve business goals
  • Supports the launch of new products and innovations
  • Builds professional relationships with senior management to promote the vision for direct materials and indirect procurement
  • Analyzes monthly purchase price variance (PPV) and regularly reviews the cost plan for indirect procurement
  • Approaches tasks with a hands-on attitude and is willing to address business needs as required
  • Facilitates the development of the procurement team through coaching, on-the-job training, formal training, and career planning
  • Prioritizes safety and ensures a safe work environment by fostering a culture of safety

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily fulfill each essential duty. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required; experience in contract negotiation is desirable.

Education and/or Experience

Must have a bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; an MBA is preferred.

A minimum of 10 years of previous experience

  • Background at a food or beverage company
  • Procurement experience involving agricultural commodities and packaging, including experience with indirect procurement and its organizational dynamics
  • Experience driving and implementing process improvements and system initiatives that enhance operational efficiency
  • Experience utilizing a strategic sourcing methodology (such as a 7-step process) to develop category strategies, source, negotiate, and manage suppliers for the most cost-effective materials and to mitigate supply risks
  • Experience in global sourcing is preferred
  • Able to work independently while leading the growth and development of the procurement team
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
