Automation Technician

An established company located in East Point, GA, with a significant market share in their manufacturing industry, is seeking an Automation Technician to join their team. This position is in a plant environment and involves working with robotic installations for the assembly process. The work schedule for this day shift opportunity is from 8:00am – 4:30pm, with the potential for up to 10 hours of paid overtime per week. The company offers a competitive benefit package, including a generous 401K match and performance-based bonuses. Relocation assistance is also available. The manufacturing environment includes die casting, stamping, and assembly processes, utilizing robots from Fanuc, ABB, and UR, as well as Allen Bradley PLCs. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience, likely making this a Level III role.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
As an Automation/Robotics Technician, you will be responsible for participating in cell design, end of arm tooling, and fixture design, as well as the installation and maintenance of automated equipment. This role involves a combination of mechanical, electrical, and facilities support. Your primary goal will be improving efficiency and extending the lifespan of robotic and automated equipment by performing the following duties:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Level I
– Working with pneumatics and principles of compressed air
– Working with hydraulics and principles of fluid mechanics
– Completing electrical tasks such as working with circuits from 120 to 480 volts, AC and DC power, and circuit boards
– Assisting in the construction of robotic equipment and testing robotic systems
Level II (This level includes all Level I responsibilities)
– Layout and installation of plumbing systems
– Taking voltage and current readings and conducting ohm testing
– Installing and programming robotic equipment
– Troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues with robotic equipment
– Making repairs and replacing defective parts
Level III (This level includes all Level I & II responsibilities)
– Installing air logic controls
– Troubleshooting hydraulic circuits and PLC systems
– Installing, programming, and repairing programmable controllers, robot controllers, and conveyors
– Using knowledge of fabrication equipment for maintenance tasks
– Operating and analyzing robotics equipment
– Working closely with engineers and production team to achieve goals
– Conducting preventative maintenance and repairing robotic machines
– Disassembling and re-assembling robots
– Training others to install, use, and service robots
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Level I – High school diploma or equivalent with one to two years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Level II – High school diploma or equivalent with two to four years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Level III – Technical training certificates or associate degree with six to eight years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents, write reports and correspondence, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Problem-solving and data collection skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to use hands to handle objects and tools, hear and communicate effectively. The employee will frequently be required to stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, and crawl. The employee must also have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work environment may involve loud noise, extreme heat, working in high or precarious places, exposure to weather conditions, fumes or chemicals, electrical risks, and vibration.
