Die Cast Supervisor

Well-established organization with a significant portion of the U.S. market share in their specialized industry, located in Auburn, AL, is currently seeking a Die Cast Supervisor to join their team. This position is available due to company growth and offers a day shift schedule, typically from 6:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility. This supervisor role will oversee the zinc die casting operations involving multiple machines of various tonnages. The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting die equipment, ensuring quality control, correcting defects, and managing production planning and scheduling.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

As the Die Cast Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising all operations within the die casting department. This includes maintaining production quality, managing employees, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and monitoring daily production standards.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Enforce and uphold safety regulations within the department to ensure a safe working environment.
  2. Direct and coordinate the activities of employees in the die casting department.
  3. Resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances by consulting with management or subordinates.
  4. Participate in the hiring process by reviewing credentials, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions or recommendations.
  5. Train, counsel, and discipline employees in the die casting department as needed.
  6. Coordinate operations and activities with other supervisors and departments.
  7. Inspect materials, products, and equipment to identify defects in the die casting department.
  8. Complete Time and Attendance tasks using Microsoft Dynamics AX.
  9. Analyze production records and reports to determine production requirements and evaluate current estimates and outputs.
  10. Maintain organization and cleanliness in the workspace.
  11. Perform regular cycle counts and inventory controls to ensure accuracy.
  12. Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet goals.
  13. Provide training on equipment operations, work procedures, and safety to new employees.
  14. Monitor work to ensure operators adhere to production standards.

DEPARTMENTAL SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Die Cast: (Reports to Plant Manager)

  1. Adjust casting cycle times, die lubrication, and process parameters to maintain quality.
  2. Supervise operation of die cast machines, trim presses, laundry systems, and melting furnaces.
  3. Analyze, organize, and plan production to meet customer needs.
  4. Perform data entry via production reports.
  5. Ensure accurate and timely timekeeping.
  6. Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects and audits.
  7. Collaborate with other departments to resolve production-related issues.
  8. Document training events and ensure implementation within the department.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in HPDC (zinc, aluminum, etc.), with a preference for high-pressure aluminum die casting experience.
  2. Three to five years of experience in troubleshooting HPDC machinery.
  3. Three to five years of experience in quality control within a die casting environment.
  4. Strong proficiency in MRP/ERP software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Proficient in mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  7. Problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret instructions in various formats.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, and communicate effectively. Candidates must have good manual dexterity to handle and manipulate objects, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work environment may be loud, typical for manufacturing settings. Hearing protection may be required in some departments.
