Job Title: Automation Specialist

Location: Waterloo, IA

Salary: $80,000-115,000 per year + bonus

Role Summary of the Automation Specialist: As an Automation Specialist, you will analyze electrical engineering and control requirements in order to develop technical and business solutions for projects that require investment. You will determine the criteria for success for system requirements and select equipment that best meets cost, schedule, and performance needs. Additionally, you will establish standards, methods, and designs for electrical and control equipment to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. The emphasis will be on controls and electrical systems for processing, filling, and packaging applications. This role requires collaboration within a technical team environment.

Responsibilities of the Automation Specialist:

· Manage projects from conception to completion.

· Develop comprehensive project submittal packages to ensure project success.

· Determine physical location and arrangement placements.

· Assess infrastructure requirements.

· Collaborate with the Plant Engineering Manager and Project Manager to estimate preliminary capital and expense requirements.

· Establish a design schedule that aligns with project schedule requirements and equipment/system performance criteria.

· Create detailed functional control and electrical descriptions for unit operations.

· Independently manage and coordinate projects.

· Excel in a team-based work environment.

· Participate in and conduct plant trials.

· Present written and verbal technical reports to supervisors.

· Interpret, develop, and issue technical specifications.

· Develop expertise in processing, filling, and packaging operating systems for assigned areas.

· Have a solid understanding of a food manufacturing environment.

· Stay up to date with the latest advancements in food packaging technology and commercial applications.

Qualifications for the Automation Specialist:

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Robotics Engineering (with a focus on controls of processing/packaging/filling equipment design/electrical).

· Strong emphasis on controls engineering is required.

· 2-7 years of experience in control system design.

· Background in food manufacturing is highly preferred.

· Proficient in AutoCAD software and electrical schematics.

· Technical understanding of manufacturing systems and equipment.

· Experience working with Rockwell Controls and/or GE, as well as networking experience.

· Ability to work in a highly complex facility with extensive automation and upcoming projects involving AI technology.

· Detail-oriented and excellent team player.
