Engineering Project Lead

Job Title: Engineering Project Lead

Location: Omaha, NE

Salary: $120-150K + bonus

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly qualified Engineering Project Lead to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver, data-driven, and adaptable to the ever-changing demands of our business and customers. This role will require hands-on experience in project engineering as well as managing a team of engineers, technicians, and product development professionals. You will be responsible for building prototypes, conducting tests, and traveling to customer sites for inspections and commissioning support.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3-7 years of experience in managing and leading technical teams.
  • Hold a valid Professional Mechanical Engineer (PE) license in Nebraska and have the ability to obtain reciprocity in other states.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical review and risk assessment for quotations and large contracts.
  • Proficiency in reviewing design risk assessment, verification, and validation activities to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Ability to effectively manage long project timelines and maintain high productivity to achieve project milestones.
  • Experience in writing design standards.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software.
  • Knowledge and experience with regulatory codes such as UL, CSA, NEC, and NFPA.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and a process-oriented mindset to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 10% of the time).


– Oversee a team of engineers and designers and ensure completion of project-specific engineering activities.

– Allocate resources within the Project Engineering team, assess and address risks, and meet project deadlines for technical deliverables.

– Review and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), drawing packages, bills of materials, mathematical data, and other technical documentation.

– Ensure timely completion of ECOs and large projects/custom-engineered solutions.

– Coordinate with sales and project management teams to manage resource workloads and allocate resources efficiently.

– Lead the technical review of specifications for quotations and assess risks associated with large contracts.

– Guide all activities related to custom-engineered solutions, including design, modeling, prototyping, evaluation, and testing.

– Conduct reviews of design risk assessments, verification, and validation activities to ensure compliance with customer requirements.

– Develop design standards for transit systems and components to enhance application and product knowledge.

– Support research and development initiatives, design experiments, and analyze test results.

– Monitor and manage department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

– Review Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and provide assistance in addressing root causes and resolving issues.

– Travel to customer sites for on-site inspections and commissioning activities, both domestically and internationally.

– Collaborate with the Director of Engineering and other Engineering Managers to coordinate engineering activities across teams.

– Supervise and provide leadership to a group of Engineers and Designers.

– Conduct performance reviews and ensure overall team evaluation and improvement.

– Establish and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the team.
