Ammonia Refrigeration Technician – 2 Openings

Well-established and renowned company situated in Greenwood, Indiana area within a plant environment offers employment opportunities for permanent Ammonia Refrigeration Technicians during the night shift. The company fosters an invigorating and influential culture.


  • Night shift: 6:15 PM – 6:45 AM
  • Work 4 days on, 4 days off


  • Initial pay rate is $34/hour with additional shift differentials for the night shift – 2nd shift (at $0.25/hour) and 3rd shift (at $0.30/hour). Overtime payment of one and a half times the regular rate for any hours worked beyond 8 hours in a day. The company also provides significant benefits and offers relocation assistance. If an individual works a 12-hour shift, they would be compensated at $40.25/hour, including shift differential.


To successfully perform this role, the candidate must satisfactorily fulfill each essential responsibility.

Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Adhere to Safety, PSM, environmental, SQF, GMP policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge, discernment, and uphold elevated standards for work quality
  • Operate, oversee, identify issues, test, adjust, and maintain the facility’s utility systems
  • Complete progressive Boiler and Ammonia Operator Training
  • Effectively communicate (both written and verbal) in all aspects of daily work
  • Resolve equipment and process problems, ensuring seamless operations and continuity throughout multiple shifts
  • Support weekly work order schedules arranged by Facilities Maintenance Planner
  • Utilize CMMS (SAP PM) accurately to document and track work order hours and execution
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs with vendors and external contractors, working alongside Planner and Management
  • Active participation or leadership in daily shift change DDS and shutdown meetings
  • Promote Break-Down-Analysis (BDA) and 5S for designated Facilities areas, while actively engaging in continuous improvement activities through the company’s performance system
  • Ability to work overtime and/or flexible hours as required, including weekends and holidays
  • Perform other assigned duties


Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED is mandatory
  • At least 2 years of experience as a stationary engineer, industrial maintenance personnel, commercial HVAC technician, or equivalent military experience
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude – demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment and systems
  • Must enroll and complete within 6 months the GCAP (or equivalent approved by Management) Boiler Tech 1 program
  • Must enroll and obtain certification within 6 months the GCAP (or equivalent approved by Management) Ammonia operator 1 program
  • Must enroll and obtain certification within 12 months the GCAP (or equivalent approved by Management) Ammonia operator 2 program


  • Capability of prolonged standing
  • High mobility, involving extensive walking on flat surfaces and stairs, with rapid response to facility emergencies
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Capacity to work on ladders, boom lifts, forklifts, and scissor lifts
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment with varying temperatures
  • Pass respirator testing annually for PSM
  • Openness to work in a union environment
