Stamping Engineer
Summary
The Stamping Engineer will possess a comprehensive knowledge of metal forming procedures and machinery, including the technical skills required in manufacturing processes and techniques such as flow, layout, and production equipment, with a specific emphasis on bearing manufacturing methods. Collaborating with personnel from various departments including manufacturing, maintenance, set-up, and engineering, the Stamping Engineer will be responsible for enhancing manufacturing processes and methods to reduce costs, improve quality, and increase efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Offer technical assistance for existing metal forming equipment and processes in a manufacturing setting to ensure maximum efficiency is achieved.
- Conceptualize and design tooling (dies, punches, die-sets), mechanisms, and equipment for use in metalworking during manufacturing processes.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for tooling issues related to metal forming procedures.
- Perform standard analysis, calculations, and produce drawings as necessary for product engineering designs.
- Manage multiple projects and activities independently in order to meet safety, quality, cost, delivery, and continuous improvement goals, while adhering to planned deadlines.
- Assist other engineers in resolving issues related to manufacturing new or existing products.
- Interact and collaborate with associates at various skill levels across the organization.
- Provide engineering support for scrap reduction, productivity improvements using Lean tools, machine builds, and quality enhancements.
- Analyze data to identify, troubleshoot, and enhance various processes.
- Work together with suppliers to develop engineering designs by validating criteria such as cycle time and tooling.
- Coordinate and oversee equipment trials at vendor sites and in-house.
- Offer guidance to engineering technicians, interns, and team members as needed.
- Collaborate and engage in activities with cross-functional teams including Quality Engineering and Production Supervisors.
- Take responsibility for the design, installation, and commissioning of manufacturing lines.
- Assist with equipment design requirements and administrative tasks throughout multiple project phases, including creating RFQs.
- Support the launch of new programs.
- Provide daily engineering support for production.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting, dies, punches, and related tooling used in presses.
- Excellent mechanical skills.
- Knowledge of equipment safety and safety compliance is a plus.
- Proficiency with Creo, Solid Works, and AutoCAD.
- Understanding of PFMEA.
- Highly innovative and motivated, with a strong ability to work well in a team setting.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to perform under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Ability to effectively apply engineering theories in practical applications within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in using Statistical Process Control for problem-solving and decision-making.
- Capability to document process changes in support of a structured Quality Assurance system.
- Capacity to work independently within a team structure.
- Ability to approach problem-solving with a systematic and structured methodology.
- Understanding and implementation of Lean manufacturing concepts, problem-solving techniques, and root-cause analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent project management abilities.
- Effective interpersonal skills in interactions with both internal and external customers.
- Proficient in using computers with the Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Practical knowledge of problem-solving techniques such as 8D, A3, 5 Whys, etc.
Education and Experience
- Qualified candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, along with 3-5 years of experience in metal forming processes and presses.
- Proficiency in Solid Works, AutoCAD, and Creo.
- Excellent project management skills.
