The Vice President will oversee the secure, efficient, and cost-effective transportation of inbound supplier goods, intercompany materials, work-in-process, and outbound finished products. The role entails managing company-operated fleets, third-party transportation services, rail operations, freight forwarding, warehousing, distribution, procurement, transportation technology, performance management, and transportation-related contractual obligations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in fields like Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Operations, Engineering, Business, Finance, or related areas is mandatory.
• An MBA, master’s degree, or other advanced qualifications in business, technology, or supply chain are advantageous.
• Relevant industry certifications such as APICS CSCP, ASCM CLTD, Certified Transportation Professional, or equivalent credentials are a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Over ten years of progressive experience in logistics, transportation, distribution, supply chain, or related leadership roles.
• At least seven years in senior leadership positions within complex industrial, manufacturing, mining, steel, construction, or heavy-materials environments.
• Proven track record in managing logistics for multiple businesses, facilities, regions, and operating models.
• Experience overseeing company fleets and working with third-party transportation providers.
• In-depth knowledge of various transportation operations like truckload, less-than-truckload, rail, freight forwarding, expedited shipping, warehousing, and distribution.
• Global logistics expertise, including international transportation, customs, and import/export processes.
• Successful history negotiating transportation agreements with carriers, warehouses, brokers, and other partners.
• Strong financial aptitude with a background in managing logistics budgets, forecasts, cost models, and savings programs.
• Demonstrated ability to drive EBITDA and total-landed-cost improvements through sourcing, network optimization, fleet efficiency, mode conversion, and value-creation initiatives.
• Proficient in utilizing data and KPIs to enhance safety, customer service, productivity, cost efficiency, asset utilization, and working capital.
• Experience optimizing distribution networks, transportation lanes, fleet structures, warehouse layouts, and shipment flows.
• History of leading enterprise transformations, process enhancements, technology implementations, acquisitions, or organizational changes.
• Familiarity with transportation management systems, warehouse systems, fleet technologies, telematics, ERPs, and business analytics tools.
• Advanced analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
• Deep understanding of transportation safety, fleet management, compliance, and trade regulations.
• Knowledge of transportation terms, routing guidelines, Incoterms, and ability to collaborate with Procurement, Sales, Finance, and Legal on freight responsibilities.
• Effective communication and presentation abilities to engage with various stakeholders across different levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Devise and implement a comprehensive logistics strategy in line with organizational goals, service commitments, operational needs, financial targets, and value-creation priorities.
• Lead inbound, intercompany, and outbound logistics for company fleets, carriers, rail, freight services, warehousing, and distribution.
• Establish unified logistics standards and processes across the organization, covering dispatch, routing, load planning, shipment tracking, confirmation, settlement, claims, and exception handling.
• Analyze and optimize the company's private fleet operations considering size, utilization, maintenance, safety, backhaul opportunities, equipment requirements, and transportation decisions.
• Enhance the logistics network by evaluating flows, modes, consolidation, locations, activity, positioning, opportunities, and freight control.
• Develop a robust carrier and logistics-provider strategy to ensure adequate capacity, service levels, coverage, terms, and support.
• Collaborate with Procurement and Legal to negotiate agreements with carriers, rail providers, freight forwarders, brokers, warehouse managers, and other partners. Establish governance protocols for transportation responsibilities and terms in agreements.
• Manage the logistics budget, forecasting, cost reduction, capital needs, and financial reporting. Provide insights into transportation spend, cost efficiency, savings, and EBITDA enhancement through productivity and optimization initiatives.
• Improve financial accuracy and cost control through enhanced freight management practices.
• Implement a logistics dashboard for performance tracking covering safety, timeliness, cost, utilization metrics, efficiency, service metrics, and compliance levels.
• Drive the logistics technology roadmap including management systems, telematics, visibility tools, route optimization, integration, documentation solutions, and business intelligence.
• Enhance logistics data quality, access, and consistency. Establish data standards, reporting guidelines, requirements, and accuracy measures.
• Collaborate with key departments to align logistics capacity with production plans, inventory, commitments, and growth goals.
• Provide logistics insights for the sales and operations planning process, including planning, requirements, deployment, constraints, and risk management.
• Lead the resolution of urgent logistics issues, capacity shortages, disruptions, and service risks.
• Develop contingency plans for essential transportation routes, partners, products, and locations.
• Ensure compliance with transportation, safety, customs, import/export, and trade regulations.
• Support acquisition evaluations by assessing networks, assets, operations, systems, capabilities, and synergies.
• Build, mentor, and nurture a skilled logistics leadership team. Design the organizational structure, define roles, expectations, succession plans, talent needs, and accountability across functions.
• Communicate logistics strategy, performance, risks, and investment needs to internal and external stakeholders effectively.
