Building Design Engineer
Job Title: Building Design Engineer
Location: Spring Grove, IL
Position Summary:
This role requires the expertise and capability to plan, devise, and oversee the development of building structures, foundations, and site civil requirements. A key element of this position involves effective project management of both external and internal contractors to ensure cost-efficient and prompt installations. The Building Design Engineer will be based in Spring Grove, IL, while also providing support to two nearby sites.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create functional building and plant layouts, as well as design dependable foundations for specialized machinery.
- Utilize SolidWorks and 2D CAD software to produce plans, designs, and documentation for building structures, plant/equipment layouts, and plant utilities.
- Analyze projects to determine feasibility, develop budgets and project return on investment (ROI).
- Prepare detailed specifications for bid packages, obtain quotations, negotiate prices and delivery terms, review contracts, submit project authorizations, and award contracts to vendors for buildings, foundations, utilities, site civil work, and plant cranes.
- Develop and maintain visual schedules using MS Project for building and foundation projects.
- Act as the general contractor by scheduling and directing the work performed by various subcontractors for plant building and office projects.
- Supervise project crew personnel involved in the installation and assembly of designs.
- Oversee the quality and safety of external contractors' work during the installation of buildings, foundations, and utilities (HVAC, Plumbing, and Railroad).
- Take responsibility for modifying, redesigning, and repairing existing structures.
- Possess extensive knowledge and understanding of building structural design and heavy machinery foundation design.
- Demonstrate proficiency in plant utilities, civil engineering, building codes, and environmental codes.
- Hold a corporate position responsible for the architectural and structural requirements of all three plants (including two joint venture plants).
- Ensure designs meet or exceed relevant codes, conducting thorough analysis, validation, and due diligence to ensure the quality of design with utmost priority on plant and personnel safety.
- Assist with mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
- Have rigging experience and the ability to draft written engineered lift plans.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Architectural or Structural Engineering.
- Strong Project Management skills (degree and/or experience).
- Familiarity with crane code manufacturing (CMAA).
- Knowledge of permitting regulations, building codes, and standards.
- Proficiency in reading structural blueprints and generating 2D CAD drawings.
- Excellent skills in using MS Office applications, especially MS Project for project scheduling.
- Outstanding communication skills with a focus on organization and attention to detail.
