General Manager of Construction Operations
Location: San Diego, CA
Salary: $150,000 – $210,000 (DOE)
Full-Time | On-Site
We are in need of a seasoned Manager of Construction Operations to supervise heavy civil construction activities in the San Diego area. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide oversight for multiple projects, ensuring that work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced field leader seeking to take charge of large-scale operations and enhance performance across various teams.
Primary Duties
Lead and supervise division superintendents and field crews
Ensure projects are completed punctually and within budget
Review and authorize construction methods, sequencing, and execution plans
Coordinate workforce, equipment, subcontractors, and vendors
Collaborate with Project Managers during preconstruction planning and execution
Maintain comprehensive understanding of project scope, plans, and specifications
Supervise foremen and field operations on multiple projects
Manage and update project schedules and sequencing
Lead coordination with owners, including regular meetings
Oversee subcontractor scope alignment, inclusions, and exclusions
Enforce job site safety regulations and foster union relationships
Monitor project costs, productivity, and budget performance
Manage timekeeping, extra work tracking, and cost efficiency
Ensure project closeout, completion of punch list, and turnover
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
Over 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction
Solid background in field operations and construction execution
Experience overseeing multiple superintendents and large-scale projects
Thorough knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and scheduling
Experience working in unionized environments
Effective leadership, communication, and organizational abilities
Capacity to handle high-pressure situations and meet deadlines
Desirable experience in landscape construction
