Business Development Representative
Overview
An expanding, forward-thinking life sciences company needs a Sales Representative to boost revenue in the Boston area. The focus will be on selling cutting-edge histology and digital pathology services to various research sectors.
This role demands strong technical knowledge, a proactive sales approach, and the ability to forge lasting connections within the research community.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Drive growth through targeted prospecting, outreach, and client meetings
- Acquire new business from biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic clients
- Pitch services, negotiate deals, and close sales
- Maintain a healthy pipeline and hit sales targets consistently
- Grow existing accounts through upselling and expanding projects
Client Relationship Management
- Develop and nurture relationships with researchers, PIs, and lab leaders
- Offer tailored support to meet client research needs
- Provide timely responses and solutions for long-term partnerships
Market Development & Industry Presence
- Represent the company at conferences, trade shows, and industry events
- Spot trends and opportunities in biomedical research and pathology
- Stay updated on competitors to shape territory strategy
Strategy, Reporting & Collaboration
- Monitor sales performance, pipeline, and market trends
- Work closely with marketing, operations, and lab teams
- Assist with scoping, pricing, and executing service agreements
- Ensure brand consistency in client interactions
Required Qualifications
- 5–10 years of sales experience in life sciences (preferably lab, histology, or pathology)
- Bachelor's degree in life sciences, business, or related field
- Proven success in field-based, sales-driven roles
- Familiarity with histology, specimen processing, and pathology
- Ability to prospect, build pipeline, and close deals
- Willingness to travel in the Boston region
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience selling in biotech, pharma, or research settings
- Laboratory or research background in biomedical sciences
- Knowledge of digital pathology and imaging technologies
- Strong network in life sciences research circles
- Understanding of advanced histology techniques (e.g., IHC, immunofluorescence)
