Will be floating between 8 locations. 2 in Utica NY, 2 in New Hartford NY, 2 in Rome NY, 1 in Barneveld NY, and 1 in Ilion NY. The location closest to the candidate's home will be the base
Monday to Friday 5:45am - 6:00pm (8 hours, variable), Rotating Saturdays 6:15am - 12:30pm (4.5-5.5 hours, variable)
Summary:
The primary responsibility of a phlebotomist is to support in performing various assigned tasks, identifying issues, providing training, and suggesting improvements in workflow.
Position Responsibilities:
Experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, specimen centrifugation, data recording and decontamination, patient information updates, etc. Collect and store specimens based on established protocols. Clearly and politely explain the venipuncture (blood draw) process and/or other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) as needed. Provide demonstrations using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Understand and execute all physician orders. Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, separate, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. Prepare specimens for transportation. Store specimen samples at the correct temperature, place samples in suitable collection containers/tubes, label accurately, follow specific procedures as necessary for transport outlined in the protocol to preserve sample integrity. Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual departmental training sessions. Answer phone calls, interpret laboratory results to address inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications: Valid state Phlebotomy certification as required in some states. At least 6 months of experience in venipuncture in a high-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
