Summary:

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to support in performing various assigned tasks, problem-solving, training, and offering recommendations for workflow improvement.

Position Responsibilities:

Experience conducting blood draws, tagging specimens, spinning specimens, documenting maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient records, etc.

Gathers and stores samples following established protocols.

Clearly explains the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g. urine or fecal) as needed in a courteous manner

Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Understands all physician orders.

Matches requisition forms to specimen tubes.

Tags, spins, divides, and freezes specimens based on test orders. Verifies all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. Prepares specimens for transport

Stores samples at required temperature, places them in proper containers/tubes, labels accurately, follows specific protocols for transport to maintain sample integrity. Adheres to OSHA and DEP regulations.

Participates in annual departmental training sessions

Answers phone calls, reads lab results to address inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will work as needed in specified states

At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital environment

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

High School Diploma or GED

2+ years of experience
