Summary: The primary task of a phlebotomist is to aid in executing different assigned responsibilities, addressing issues, offering training, and proposing work flow suggestions.

Position Responsibilities:

Skills in performing blood draws, marking specimens, spinning specimens, documenting maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient details, etc.

Gathers and preserves specimens following established protocols.

Clearly explains the venipuncture (blood drawing) process and/or other specimen collection procedures (e.g. urine or fecal) when required.

Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Thoroughly comprehends all physician instructions.

Matches laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes. Labels, spins, divides, and freezes specimens per test order.

Verifies all test requisitions or computer labels against the script for 100% accuracy. Packs specimens for transportation.

Stores specimens at required temperatures, positions samples appropriately
