Overview
The Home Infusion Pharmacy Manager in Syracuse is accountable for daily clinical pharmacy operations and ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations at the infusion pharmacy. This position includes involvement in patient care, oversight of sterile compounding, and coordination of care.
This role requires strong leadership skills to uphold compliance, clinical standards, and operational efficiency for sustainable growth.
Responsibilities
1. Regulatory & PIC Oversight
· Act as the designated PIC and key contact for the State Board of Pharmacy
· Ensure adherence to:
o USP
o USP
o Local and federal pharmacy regulations
· Manage pharmacy licenses, DEA compliance, and readiness for inspections
· Lead accreditation preparation (ACHC, URAC) and respond to audits
· Establish and enforce SOPs and policies
2. Clinical & Patient Care (Staff Pharmacist Role)
· Review, verify, and dispense prescriptions for infusion therapies (IVIG, antibiotics, biologics, TPN)
· Assess patient-specific information (labs, allergies, renal/hepatic function)
· Offer patient counseling and education
· Monitor therapy progress and collaborate with providers for adjustments
· Provide clinical assistance for intake and referral teams
3. Sterile Compounding & Pharmacy Operations
· Supervise sterile compounding and cleanroom activities
· Guarantee accuracy, sterility, and compliance in all compounded products
· Manage pharmacy technicians and compounding staff
· Maintain efficient workflow from intake → dispense → delivery
· Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of medications
4. Care Coordination & Intake Support
· Collaborate closely with intake team on:
o Benefits verification (VOB)
o Prior authorizations
o Clinical documentation review
· Coordinate with nurses, providers, and referral sources
· Support rapid therapy initiation (essential for market competitiveness)
· Act as clinical liaison for hospitals and physician offices
5. Inventory & Financial Management
· Oversee high-cost specialty drug inventory and cold chain logistics
· Monitor drug utilization, wastage, and financial impact
· Navigate drug shortages and propose alternatives
· Assist in cost control and formulary decisions
Requirements
Education & Licensing
· PharmD or Bachelor of Pharmacy degree
· Active pharmacist license in state of practice
· Eligible for PIC designation
Experience
· 2–5+ years of pharmacy experience (preferably in home infusion, hospital, or specialty settings)
· Strong background in sterile compounding
· Previous leadership or PIC experience is advantageous
Skills & Competencies
· Comprehensive understanding of pharmacy regulations and compliance
· Clinical proficiency in infusion therapies
· Ability to balance hands-on work with leadership responsibilities
· Effective communication with providers, nurses, and internal teams
