Safety Specialist - Construction

We are in need of a forward-thinking, independent Safety Specialist to join our team. The perfect fit will possess CHST Certification, a keen attention to detail, a thorough knowledge of OSHA guidelines, and the ability to cultivate a safety-conscious atmosphere on-site. Your role will involve overseeing compliance and handling incidents with a level-headed, professional approach.


Core Duties

  • Regulatory Adherence: Interpret and follow intricate OSHA rules to ensure all site operations comply with the law.

  • Safety Strategy: Spearhead the creation and execution of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and comprehensive Site Safety Plans.

  • Emergency Response: Serve as the main contact for on-site incidents; oversee reporting, investigation, and resolution while upholding professional standards.

  • Dispute Resolution: Utilize strong interpersonal abilities to address safety disagreements on-site and enforce compliance among diverse teams and subcontractors.

  • Data Management: Use advanced computer skills to handle Excel spreadsheets and navigate various contractor compliance portals.

  • Independent Oversight: Supervise daily safety operations with little supervision, showcasing initiative and dedication to excellence in the workplace.


Required Credentials & Certifications

  • OSHA 510: Proficiency in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.

  • OSHA 30 (Construction): Extensive training on construction-related hazards and prevention methods.

  • CHST Certification:

    • Applicants must possess an active Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification.

    • Alternate Route: Those without a CHST seeking to take the exam must showcase at least 3 years of professional experience in a dedicated safety capacity.


Skills & Traits

  • Professionalism: Upholds a composed and ethical demeanor as a company representative.

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and familiar with digital compliance systems.

  • Effective Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate complex safety requirements to both upper management and field workers.

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to spot potential hazards before incidents occur and devise preemptive mitigation strategies.


Physical Demands & Working Environment

  • Frequent travel to various job sites.

  • Aptitude to navigate active construction sites.

  • Readiness to work in diverse weather conditions.
