Summary: The primary role of a blood draw specialist is to help with various assigned tasks, troubleshooting, training, and providing recommendations for work flow.
Position Responsibilities:
Experience conducting blood draws, labeling samples, spinning specimens, documenting maintenance information and decontamination, updating patient records, etc.
Gathers and stores samples following established protocols. Clearly explains the venipuncture process or other specimen collection methods in a courteous manner. Demonstrates techniques using different types of needles. Fully comprehends all physician instructions.
Matches requisition forms with specimen tubes. Labels, spins, splits, and freezes samples based on test requirements.
Verifies all test requisitions or labels against scripts for accuracy.
Packages samples for transportation. Stores samples at proper temperatures, places them in suitable containers, labels accurately, and follows specific transport protocols to preserve specimen integrity. Adheres to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual training sessions. Handles phone inquiries and reports laboratory results.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment. At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED
