Description:

Summary:

A phlebotomist is responsible for assisting in various assigned tasks, troubleshooting, training, and providing recommendations for work flow improvement.

Position Responsibilities:

Experience in blood collection, specimen labeling, centrifuging, maintenance data recording, decontamination, patient information updates, etc.

Collect and store specimens following established procedures.

Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures as required.

Demonstrate proper technique with straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Comprehend all physician orders accurately.

Match lab requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test order requirements.

Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

Prepare specimens for transport.

Store specimen samples at required temperature, place samples in appropriate containers, label accurately, and follow protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations.

Participate in annual department trainings.

Handle phone calls, provide laboratory results, and address inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

Hold a valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment

At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

High School Diploma or GED
