Overview:
The primary role of a phlebotomist is to aid in the execution of various assigned tasks, addressing issues, training, and proposing workflow enhancements. Position Duties:
Experience with blood collections, specimen labeling, specimen centrifugation, maintenance data recording, decontamination, patient information updates, etc. Ensures proper collection and storage of specimens according to established guidelines. Clearly and courteously explains the venipuncture (blood drawing) process and/or other specimen collection procedures (e.g. urine or fecal samples) when necessary. Demonstrates needle techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully comprehends all physician orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms with corresponding specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as per test requirements. Double-checks test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. Prepares specimens for transportation. Properly stores specimen samples at required temperatures, placing them in suitable containers/tubes, labeling accurately, and following specific protocols for transport to preserve specimen integrity. Adheres to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual departmental training sessions. Answers phone calls, provides lab result information to address inquiries.
Essential Requirements: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in certain states. At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED
