Location: Albany, NY
Schedule: varied Monday-Friday 630am-530pm, alternating sats 7am-1pm

Summary:
The primary role of a phlebotomist is to aid in the execution of various assigned tasks, troubleshooting, training, and making recommendations for workflow improvements.
Position Responsibilities:
Experience conducting blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
Collecting and storing specimens following established procedures.
Explaining the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, as well as other specimen collection procedures as needed.
Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles, understanding physicians' orders, and matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens based on test orders.
Verifying all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy, and packaging specimens for transport.
Storing specimen samples at the required temperature, placing them in appropriate containers, accurately labeling, and following specific procedures for transport.
Complying with OSHA and DEP regulations, and attending annual department trainings.
Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to address inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
High School Diploma or GED
